Storybook Fantasy

Clouds, moons, hot air balloons, unicorns and fairy lights, lit soft and dreamlike. The set most often chosen for the first-birthday invitation image.

What is in the set

A suspended cloud installation and crescent moon seat
A hand-built hot air balloon basket, scaled for a sitter or toddler
Fairy light curtains at several depths for bokeh
Unicorn, star and storybook props
Pastel gradient backdrop rather than a flat colour
Heavy diffusion with a subtle haze, which is what makes the light look dreamlike

What to wear

Pastels — blush, lilac, butter, mint, sky

Fabric wings, star crowns and soft headbands
Parents in pale neutrals so the pastels stay on the child

What we would tell you about this set

A light haze in the air is what separates this from a pastel backdrop with lights on it — it makes every light source bloom slightly and it is how the set gets its atmosphere. We use a very small amount and we ventilate between setups. If anyone in the family is asthmatic, say so on the call and we will light it differently instead. It is a slightly less dreamy result and it is not worth the alternative.

FAQ

Storybook Fantasy — common questions

You mention haze in the studio. Is that safe?+

We use a very small amount and ventilate between setups. If anyone in the family is asthmatic, say so on the call and we light it differently instead — a slightly less dreamy result, and not a trade worth making the other way.

Why is this set recommended for invitation photographs?+

The pastel gradient background and soft framing leave clean space for text, and we shoot a deliberate square crop composed for an invitation. Most sets have to be cropped awkwardly to make room for wording; this one is planned for it.

What ages does it suit?+

Three months to about five years. Newborns are photographed on the cloud installation; sitters use the moon seat; toddlers get the hot air balloon basket.
