Maternity Photography
Maternity portraits work best somewhere between 28 and 36 weeks — far enough along to show, early enough to still be comfortable standing for an hour. We shoot both in studio, where we control light and set completely, and outdoors along the ECR coast or in Chennai's parks in the hour before sunset. Gowns are provided in a range of sizes, and posing is directed continuously, because almost nobody knows what to do with their hands.
Ways to book this
- Studio maternity session — 60 to 90 minutes, controlled light and set
- Outdoor golden-hour session — ECR, Besant Nagar or a park of your choosing
- Maternity + newborn bundle — booked together, priced together
- At-home lifestyle session — your own space, minimal styling
In the session
Everything that comes as standard with a maternity booking — not a list of optional extras.

What we would tell you on the first call
Two practical things. First, book earlier than feels necessary — the comfortable window closes faster than most people expect, and third trimesters rarely run to plan. Second, tell us plainly how much of your body you want in frame. Some people want the bump as the whole subject; others want a portrait that happens to include it. Both are completely reasonable, and we would much rather know before the shoot than guess during it.
Maternity — Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time for a maternity shoot?+
Usually between 28 and 36 weeks — far enough along for a defined bump, early enough to still be comfortable standing and moving for an hour. If you are expecting twins or have been advised to take it easy, come earlier; around 26 to 30 weeks tends to work better.
Do I need to bring my own outfits?+
No. We keep a wardrobe of maternity gowns and drapes in a range of sizes, included at no extra cost. Bring your own things too if you have something you love — many of the best frames come from a mix.
I have no idea how to pose. Is that a problem?+
It is completely normal and it is our job, not yours. You are directed continuously through the session — where to put your hands, where to look, how to stand so you are comfortable. Nobody is left standing in front of a camera wondering what to do.
Studio or outdoors?+
Both work, and they produce different photographs. Studio gives us complete control of light and set, which suits dramatic, styled portraits. Outdoors — the ECR beaches, Besant Nagar, or a park — gives you golden-hour light and a sense of place. You can also split one session across both. Outdoor slots are early morning or the hour before sunset, because Chennai light at midday is unusable.
Can my partner and older children be in the photographs?+
Yes, included. Partner frames and sibling frames are part of a standard session — tell us on the styling call so we can plan the palette for everyone rather than just for you.
Will you edit my body?+
Only if you ask. As standard we remove transient things — a blemish, a stray hair, a strap mark — and leave everything else alone. If there is something specific you would like handled, tell us and we will do it. We will not reshape you by default, because being handed photographs of a body that is not yours is a strange thing to receive.
Can we book maternity and newborn together?+
Yes — The Beginning package covers both, booked and priced together, with the styling carried across so the two galleries sit together properly.
